Two Korean traditions—ducks and garments—come together in this exhibit that presents the artwork of Aimee Lee. Known as hanji, Korean paper is remarkably resilient and versatile. It can be transformed from a sheet of paper into a garment that mimics cloth, yet retains its identity as a material that can be drawn upon, dyed, textured, and sewn. Hanji can also be cut and twisted into rope-like material that twines into rigid but hollow basket forms of any shape. To illustrate the wide possibilities of hanji, paper garments in western and Korean styles will be displayed alongside the colorful and ever-popular hanji ducks that refer to Korean wedding traditions.
Aimee Lee will teach two classes at the KBAC during her visit:
Make Hanji: Korean sheet formation
